VALEDICTORY.
A representative sathorin? cf auctioneers, .business men, and tanners assembled in the Ash-bruton Masonic Hall on Thursday night to bid farewell and make a presentation to Mr J. Lillico, auctioneer for Messrs- H. Matson and Co., who is taking up farming at Dmnimond, Southland.
The Mayor (Mr K. Galbriith), on behalf of a laage munber of subscribers, made a presentation to the* guest of the evening of a 'fold watch and chain, and :i well-filled gold sovereign case, referring to his gTeat abilityand popularity as an auctioneer, and the high esteem in which he was held. Messrs t>. Priedlander, T. H. Hunter, TV. Smith, A. F. Smith, D. McDonnell (Mos-sts Mat-son and Co.'s Ashburton representative), A. Drummond (chairman of the Ashburton County Courwil). J. McQiiilkin, G. Millar, A. Christie, L. lvspague. an-J others also referred to Mr Lillico s popularity and integrity.
