WAIAU SETTLERS FAREWELLED.

A crowd assembled in tho Library Hall on°Monday night to bid farewell to tho HcKie iamily, "Tho Bogue,'' who are leaving after a residence in the district of nineteen vears. During that period some ono or other of the family lias been connected with practically every movement m the clis- ; trict, and their removal will be a great lcos i indeed. They have earned tho respect and esteem of all, and have endeared themselves | to a- large circle of friends. Both Mr D. A. McKie and Mr F. L. McKio are returned soldiers, the latter having spent four years at the front. The former had the misfortune to bo wounded in the knee in the closing stages ot the war, and complications setting in it was nccessary to amputate the limb. During the evening Mr H. T. Beaven, wno presided, spoko in felicitous terms o£ tie splendid qualities of the family as neighbours and settlers. Ho referred to Mr D. A. Mo Kio's active participation in everything periainin" to the advancement of the district, and particularly to his connexion with the ■\muri A and P. Association, also his conS With the Waiau Football Club for eleven years. He also -spoke of Mr i». I*. MclCie'e association with .all sport, and of Hiss McEie's and Miss M. McKic s splendid assistance in patriotic and Ked Cross wcrk and all social gatherings. He then, on behalf I of the residents, presented Mr and-Mrs D. A. McKio with a travelling bag, Mr F. L. McKie with a. pocket wallet and a safety razor. Miss McKic with a dressing caso, and Miss M. McKie with a wristlet watch, as slight tokens of esteem and good-ill. On bihalf of the congregation of the Preabvterian Church, the Kv. J. H. Thomson, in a few well-chosen remarks, presented Miss McKie, who lws been organist for a number of years, with a wristlet watch. Messrs H. D. Crampton. t. Iverach, F. S. Xorthcote, and K. Pettigrew also epoke in eulogistic terms of the fine qualities o; tae meets of the evening* Mr D. A. McKie and Mr F. L. McKic suitablv responded. Yocal items were contributed by Mies Northcote and Mes3T3 Burrows, Duff, Hemmings, Oldman, and tho Rev. Thomson. Dancing was kept up till aborat 2e.ni., t—e music being supplied by MrsWhiie.
