OBITUARY.

MR MARTIN MELVILLE. Mr Martin Melville, who died at Temuka some weeks ago, aged 77 years, was born in Oranrnoro County Galway, Ireland. When quite a young man he went to the United States, and after Ins marriage in San Francisco, spent eight months in Now Zealand. Ho returned to America, but -10 years ago landed in New Zealand with his wife and two children, and settled in Temuka, where ho took up fanning. Ho went to the Klondyke at tho time of tho gold rush. j_iis wife ana a daughter predeceased him. Ho leaves one son (Mr M. Melville, Temuka) and two daughters (Mrs M. L. Doody, Oxford, and Miss Katie Melville, Temuka) to mourn their loss.

Mr J. A. Burnside, a well-known architect in Danedin, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at the office of the Perpetual Trustees' Company, Dunedin. He was born in Dunedin in 1858, educated in tho local public schools, and was indentured t-o Messrs Mason and Wales. Whilst serving his apprenticeship he won a medal and snoeial prizeat the Ballarat Juvenile Industrial Exhibition for the model of a private residence, which exhibit also gained a medal at the Sydney International Exhibition in 1879. As colonial architect he designed a number of churches, manses, and public buildings. Ho was formerlv in the Otago Hussars, and was a good "rifle shot. Death was duo to heart failure.
