Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the British Institute for tho study eS national policies, Lord Grey said tn& Government should give _ tho world clearly to understand that it must not, in peace time, havo secret treaties. Tina should be regarded as a rule of foreign policy. If thev wanted to keep tho peace of the world in future, they must not only think nationally, but internationally. One of the great lessons of the war was that thinking only natiohally led to disaster. He cited Germany as an example. Mr A. J. Balfour supported Lord Grey. Mr J. R. Clyncs, on behalf of tho Labour Party, emphasised Labour's increasing interest in foreign affairs.
