ANNUAL CONVENTION.

WELLINGTON, July 7. The New Zealand Alliance Convention was continued to-dav.

An address was givon by Mr A. S. Adams on "Legislation." He stated that tho present demands of the party should be for a new electoral roll for the Dominion, and compulsory registration of votes. State control must bo eliminated from the ballot paper, and the two issues of continuance and prohibition on a baro -majority should bo submitted to the people. No sound reason could be given for the retention of the State Control issue. Less than 6 per cent, of the people voted in its favour at the last poll, and 94 per cont. of the voters opposed it. Alterations in the present Act were suggesed. The following resoluton was passed: —"That if more than two issues on the licensing question are submitted to the people, the issues to be decided by preferential voting, but if this b*e not agreed to, we urge upon the Government- to remove t'-ie. State Control issue. r:id the two issues of Continuance and Prohibition bo submitted to the people at the next Licensing poll." A* resolution was passed referring to breaches of the six o'clock closing law, and suggesting that steps to taken to secure its enforcement. A resolution of sympathy was passed with the Prime Minister in the sickness of his son. The Revs. J Dawson and W. J. Comrie introduced the subject of finance, and the budget was agreed to. Mr A. S. Adams was unanimously ' elected president for the coming year, j Vice-presidents and members of the National Council and the executive were i appointed.
