FATAL ACCIDENT.
MOTOR-CAE OVEETUENS
| Sydney Small, a returned soldier, who was in Christchurch on his honeymoon from Invercargill, was killed when a motor-car in which-ho was a passenger overturned at the corner of Dyer's road and Farmer's read, Bromley, about 3.30 vesterdiy afternoon. The car belonged to Mr James McCausland, of Lismore. Ashburton, and was only purchased on Thursday.
A pnriy, consisting of tho deceased. Mr McC.uisland, Mr John McClure, or Sumner, Sir Gerald Thrmas Riordan, of 80 Clare road, St. Albans, Mr John Frrser, Railway Hotel, Christchurch, pnd Mr Wm. Thrmson, of tho Chalmers "Ward, Chmlc'urch Hospital, were proceeding from New Brighton to Sumner. At tl'e corner of Dyer's road and Farmer's road, which is a sharp one, the steering gear locked, and McCausland, who was driving, could not turn tho car, and it overturned. Mr MrCausland states- thnt at the time of the accident tho speedometer was showing a speed of about twelve miles per hour. A!' the occupants were pinned beneath the cir. Small was killed instantlv, and McCaudnnd was severely cut r.b-ut the legs. He was subsequently removed to the Hospital. Frnser suffered a cut and the other occupants e c rared with a few scratches.
An inquest will be held at 11 a.m to-day.
