LAND FOR SOLDIERS.

YE STEED AY'S BALLOTS.

The Canterbury Land Board conducted ballots yesterday afternoon for sections in tnree settlements which were open for selection by discharged soldiers. The settlements were Woodlau (near Prebbleton), part of Lyndburst t (R&kaia-Methven railway line), and Mountford (three miles from Kirweo). The members of the Board present were :-MVlessrs H. D. M. Haszard, Commissioner of Crown Lands (chairman), T. Gee, H. Macaulay, and W. Gunningham. An apology for absence was received from Mr IX Stow ell. Miss Nixon, who drew a section in the "Woodlau settlement, is the first returned nurse who has been successful in any of the recent ballots in Canterbury. The ballot for the remaining part of the Lyndburst settlement was first taken, and Messrs' (3. H. Morrison and T. D. Jar man wore appointed scrutineers.
