BAND OF HOPE UNION". At tho monthly meeting of tho Canterbury Bapd of Hopo Union, JLr \V. R. Blazey (preQiaent) presided. Matters in connexion with the annual-competitions woro discussed. West tendered his resignation as a vice-president owing to his wife's ill-health, and Mr J. Leney was elected in his place. OPAWA BAND OF HOPE. A most successful meeting took place at tho Opawa Methodist Schoolroom on Friday evening, when an inorestin; programme of solos, recitations, and dialogues was contributed by the young people. Tho chair was occupied by the Rev. F. C.opeland. An addrees on the importance of the Band of Hope movement was given by Mr A. Di H assail. ALDINGTON BURGESSES' ASSOCIATION. At the monthly meeting of tho Addington Burgesses' ■ Association th> president (Mr H. L. Jackson) was in tho chair. A long discussion took place on tho memorial hall proposal, and it w*> finally decided to call a meeting for September 18th, and to invito delegates from the various sports bodies. in tho district to arrange something definite. The president reported that a deputation had waited on the Bed Cross Society, and they had decided to hold a huge welcome homo to all Addington soldiers. It waa decided to write to tho Poetmaster-Gencral, and ask him to put a stop to-tho practice of cloemg the Addington Post Office from noon till 1 p.m.
