OBITUARY.

MR J. W. WORMALD. Mr John AVorgan Wormald, who] arrived in Canterbury by tho ship Tip- j tree nearly 60 years ago, diod early in August at Yaldburst at the age of 77. He was the eldest son of the General Robert Croft Wormald, who saw service with the British Forces_ m tho Crimea and during tho Indian Mutiny. He followed out-door pursuits. at one time working for the Hon. Mr Walker, and latterly as manager of Mr John Gough's farm at Yaldhurst, also having charge of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company's property in the same vicinity. He was married twice, and leaves a widow, two daughters, four sons, and 14 grandchildren. His four surviving sons were soldiers, the eldest, John Worgan Wor? maid, a son of his'first wife (n£e Miss Jane Caldwell), served in the South African war, whilo of his three other sons, the children of his second wife (nee Miss Mary Murphy), two, Percy and Albert, have been at tho front in France, and the other, Fred, was in camp ready to sail when the .armistice was signed. These three sons are occupied as trainers and riders. MR, H. N. HERTZLET. The death occurred on Saturday morning, at Waimate, of Mr Harry Neville Hertzlet, aged 64, one of the county's best-known farmers. Ho was also well-known as a valuer of land, having done much special work for the Government and local bodies, and in arbitration eases. His only son, Trooper Charles Hertzlet, returned from Palestine after four years' absence about ton days ago.

The death occurred at Clyde last week, after a protracted illness, of Mr Sydney Paterson. He was the eldest son of the late Mr C. T. Paterson. of Dunedin, and until his removal to Clyde for health reasons was in charge of Paterson and Co.'s office in Dunedin. The deceased, who was about 35 years of age, is survived by Mrs Paterson and one child.
