"ACADEMIC" APPLES.
AND THE HONEY INDUSTRY. "I wonld ask you to Bo vexy careful in considering any remits concerning alterations to constitution or requests to tho Department of Agriculture," said the president at the National Beekeepers' Association of New Zealand at tho conforonco at Wellington. , "Tho latter body is a regular 'old man of the sea,' and if one® you get him on your back he is very hard to shake off. Theso remarks refer especially to the grading, ete., of our honey. I should be very sorry to see the honey industry in the same pre- , dicament that the fruit industry is in in Now Zealand. The Department has tho unfortunate knack of removing all the gilt from our smaller industries by their drastic and inelastic regulations. Owing to their machinations the people cannot get good cheap fruit—it u put out of their reach owing to .the Department's endeavour to foist uptm them an 'academic' apple—-without spot or blemish or any such thing. The general public does not want an 'academic' apple, but good, wholesome, cheap fruit. And so it was with our honeyWe don't want to be over-graded or over-harassed in the conduct of our industry,'' concluded Mr Barker.'
