HURRICANE AND TIDAL WAVE.
« DAMAGE IN TONGAN GROUP. (PBESS ASSOCIATION TXLECBAM.) AUCKLAND, June 10. The Talune, which arrived this afternoon, brought further news of the recent hurricane and tidal wavo in the Tongan Group. The most serious damage was done at Haapai. Thero wero three distinct tidal waves, the third going 483 feet inland. Smaller waves followed for a period of 24 hours. Several small vessels wero wrecked, and a Government lighter, loaded with copra, was washed to sea and wrecked on a reef six miles away, while another lighter was lost altogether. Tho American schooner Ottolia Fiord which was loading timber, had about 200,000 ft of her cargo washed awav All tho Government premises' on tho beach wero practically wrecked. At ; Nukualofa a store on tho beach was ' gutted. Two small islands disappeared I damage is estimated at £5000. I No lives were lost. t , " '
