The Ruapehu has sailed for New land with 530 troops and 180 women on board. There were romarkable scenes on Saturday when the New Zealanders from the Ruapehu welcomed the British troops who arrived aboard the Katoomba from Egypt. The British troops were ordered to a smallpox camp near Plymouth. The New Zealanders vigorously upheld the Britishers' protest, on the ground that civilians, wno had been vaccinated, were allowed to go home. The authorities finally gave way. Six cases of smallpox among the troops and civilians developed in the Mediterranean, in consequence of which all the troops and civilians were i vaccinated.
