UTILITY POULTRY CLUB

ANNUAL SHOW. The New Zealand Utility Poultry Club held its annual Young 1 Bird Show in tho social room of the Trades Hall on Saturday. Tho competition was open to members of tho club, and there was a record number of entries. Being an exhibition, of utility poultry, White Leghorna predominated. Messrs C. Careen (Government Poultry Instructor) and Y. Atkinson judged tho light claeees, and the heavy breeds were judged by Messrs R. W. Hawk© and L. Corker (Government Poultry Instructor). Ducks were judged by Messrs W. T. Green and G. Bonnet. The judges of the Leghorns and Minorcas commented on the- splendid competition among White Leghorns. The winning birds were good types of the strain. Several of the birds were not ill show condition, and in a few there was a tendency to looseness in feather. The Brown Leghorns were not up to tho standard reached by tho Whites. Minorca pullets could be only described; as fair. The judges of the heavy birds regretted that braders had apparently not sufficiently studied uniformity of type arid the, standards of the 'breeds. This remark referred to aU the strains. Otherwise, the birds were ■well shown, and the first prize winners in the classes for Orpington cockerels and pullets, as well as the winning Wyandotto cockerel, were good specimens. Owing to the late hour at which the judging was concluded, the amateur judging competition, for which there irero fivo entrants, could not be held.
