C. Sawyers. . Mr A. .Watson has joined the Mararoa as chief engineer in place of Mr Knox, who is to join the Mokoia. The Huddart-Parker steamer Westralia arrived in port yesterday morning' fom. Wellington. The -vessel is timed to Jeave for Dunedin, Bluff, and Melbourne this evening. ' The Union Co.'s cargo steamer Kauri is loading wheat at Melbourne for Dominion ports. . The Kamona, with coal and timber from the West Coast, is expected to make this port early this week. It was stated in on article which appeared in the Dunedin "Star," under the heading "New Bed Funnel Steamers," that the Leitrim and Weetmeath had been torpedoed and sunk by the Germans during the war. The "Star" reported later: —Although this information has appeared in print in. many reliable journals, it is incorrect. The Leitrim, which is one of the finest vessels of her class seen in these waters, was at Wellington only a few weeks ago, when she brought general cargo from New York, and then sailed for Australian ports. This eteamer was very fortunate during -the' war, as she never suffered damage in any way. The Westmeath met with a mishap whilo the war was in progress, when she Tan ashore on the French coast. The vessel was subsequently refloated and repaired, and is still carrying out good work in another part of the world. Both the Leitrim and Westmeath are units of the Union Steam Ship Company's fleet.
