THE CITY'S WELCOME
The Mayor CDr. H. T. J. Thacker, M.P.) has made elaborate arrangements for tho city's reception to General Sir Andrew Russell on his arrival by the Arawa on Thursday, and. subject to I necessary alterations tlie programing has been mapped out as follows:—from the railway station the General will bo taken to the Clock Tower andtothe Cathedral, where short halts will be made. Then ho will go to the Liberty Theatre, where space will be reserved for sick and wounded and nurses. The Grand Theatre will bo visited next, where 6paco will be>'reserved for those who have lost relatives at tho war. Next will come Everypody s Theatre, where special arrangements will bo made to seat old colonists, veterans, and elderly people from tn® various institutions, whom tho Canterbury Automobile Association will bo asked to bring to the theatre. At each, theatre prominent people deliver short addresses, and it is possible that General Russell will speak briefly also. A civic reception by the Mayor and councillors at the Council Chambers will conclude the ceremony. A guard of honour of Territorials and Scouts is expected to parade, and the Mayor hopes that not only trill citizens decorate their shops, but also that they will close their places of business for two hours. •I>r. Tnacker will endeavour to get into touch with the General by wireless, and he will then learn what his wishes are with regard to the proposed reception. The Mayor will hold a meeting of Picture Theatre managers and others at 10.30 a.m. to-day, in Messrs A. Rodpath and Sons' office, to discuss matters in connexion with tho reception to General Russell.
