SALT WORKS.
A DOMINION" NECESSITY.
COMPANY RAPIDLY FORMING
Agricultural and manufacturing interests have been at tho mercy and caprice of various salt combines < quite long enough. Not only has the supply of commercial salt at a reasonable price been inadequate for tho needs of the Dominion, but the present method of importing all our salt supply lias had the effect of draining the Dominion of large sums of money each year which oould with advantage be retained within our shores.
The Marine Electro-Solar Salt Company, Limited, is now in the process of formation, and it will play an important ll>art in the industries of New Zealand. Statistics show that climatic conditions at tho Estuary, New Brighton, where the proposed works will be erected, are far better suited' to solar salt work than those pertaining in other parts of tho world where solar salt works are successfully operated. Another encouraging feature is that analysis shows that the ocean salt water at Brighton is particularly rich in sodium chloride. Very little reflection is necessarv to realise tho importance of establishing | these works. So many of industries dei pend on salt as n raw material —it is so important to our agriculture—that a salt ."works is virtually a national necessitv to New Zealand. From a moneymaking point of view it is particularly attractive, the salt sea-water is inexhaustible and costs nothing, and the same applies to the sun's heat. On the other hand, the demand for salt is both constant and continually increasing. The estimated capital expenditure is £12,000. Of the capital of £30,000. £57,300 represents ordinary shares, and £2500 is proposed to be issued as deferred shares. Of these shares, 2500 ordinary £1 shares and 2500 deferred shares of £l each are to bo credited to Mr Macnrthur for work done by him, and for his special electrolytic process in expediting salt precipitation. The joropanj has three months from April loth in which to proceed to_ allotment. Further particulars and application. l ; for shares, etc., can be made to the New Zealand' Suppliers' " Exchange, Ltd., PoDlar street, Christchurch.
