SOUTHBROOK NOTES.
The anniversary celebrations of tho Methodist Church were continued on Thursday evening, when a social gathering of the congregation took place, and was well attended. The Rev. J. Guy presided. A programme of vocal and instrumental music and recitations was given, the performers being Mesdames E. Trollope, J. T. "Withers, C. S. Ayers, Misses P. Ayers, R. Ross, M. Scott, C. Ross, I. Ross, Mr C. R. Thwaites, and tho chairman. Tho financial statement submitted showed a small credit balance. Supper was served at the close of the programme. The annual meeting in connexion with the Hall was held on Wednesday, the chairman of the' committee, Mr D. Mehrtens, presiding over a fair attendance. The report was considered satisfactory. The committee had collected subscriptions for an Honours Board, which had been placed in the hair and recently unveiled by the Hon. D. Buddo, M.P. The electric light "had also been installed and was proving a great convenience. The treasurer's report showed that the year commenced with a debit balance, and after paying N all expenses, both special and ordinary, ended with a credit of £5 6s, the total receipts being £67 2s 4d. A vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late M«* S. J. Jeffrey, who bad been a t'ustee, was carried in silence. Mr D. Mehrtens was elected a trustee. The following were elected the committee for the ensuing yeari-—Messrs A. Pickering,, G. Lowe, B. d'Auvergne, I. W Bainbridge, W. Kirk, R. Hughes, and W. Hamilton. At a subsequent meeting of the new committee, Mr A. Pickering was elected chairman, and Messrs Thomas Pickard and J. T. "Withers were re-elected secretary and treasurer respectively.
