LIQUOR QUESTION.

TO THIS EDITOB Off •'Tttß PRESS." Sir, —Your correspondent "Kai Pia/* j writing under the heading of "Aegrescifc I Medondo" in his letter to your j paper, is very amusing and childisn to all 6ane people. He forgets that the wowser, or what he calls the wowßer. represents perhaps a majority in this fair land of ours over the "moderate man," the term he substitutes lor that not very" honourable name "boozer." \

I venture to ' state that the wowser has not much to fear in the way of a. boycott from the boozers, it being a well-known fact that it is the boozers, and not the wowsers, that the business men hesitate to give credit to» and frequently fails in when he does. is it not true that the National Efficiency Board was comprised of picked business men, and business men are gouig to follow their lead, so I can't see how the boozer is going to boycott them, seeing that they comprise the big majority and are men of sense, in other words, "prohibitionists." God help us if our country is going to be run by boozers. He is also in great concern about the poor fellows who will liave to do without their nip., and wonders what is to prevent them falling back on drugs. Their own sense of manliness if the booze has not destroyed it altogether, if it is not too late for them to pull themselves together, their own consciences will be more than enough to keep the poor weak creatures off i drugs. His statement about homemade beer is absurdly ridiculous, and is not proved by experience in the Old Country. In conclusion, does he think he is the only man who has ever done a bard, day's work? I. personally, know dozens of men who have never tasted liquor in any form whatsoever and who have drawn as much, if not more, sweat from their honest brows by hard work ns "Kai Pia," and who feel better in their advancing years through being totnl abstainers. Think these facts over. "Kai Pia," and then ask yourself if yours is such a feasible plan as you would have u& believe. —Yours, etc., COMMON-SENSE.
