LATE MB JOHN CONNAL'S WILL.

SEMI-PUBLIC BEQUESTS.

Under tho will of tho lato Sir John, Connal, probate of which was granted by Mr Justice Herdnian yesterday, certain institutions benefit considerably.

There is a bequest of £1500 to tho Board of Governors of Canterbury College to provide for at least two scholarships of the annual value of £20 each in connexion with tho College, these to be known as "Tho John Connal Scholarships" and to bo ton a bio for two years, and to be awarded in connexion with such of tho following subjects as the Board shnll determine:— iCngiisli, Latin. French, mathematics, and historv. In the event of tho interest from the bequest not being devoted to these purposes in any year, tho ao~ crued amonnts aro to bo devoted to another scholarship to l>e awarded on the subject of economics. Tho will provides foi tho augmentation of tlio nbovo bequest by n further, sum of £1000 upon tho death of nl beneficiary who nas been given a lifo interest in a -portion of the estate.

A leenry of £1000 has been left to« tho Y.M.C.A. (Christchurch), which will also benefit to the extent of a further £1000 upon the death of tho above-mentioned beneficiary

St. Andrew's College, Cliristchurcli, benefits under tho will to tho Extent of £1000, with the addition of n further £10C0 upon tho death of the Iwiofioiary with a life interest.

Tho Snlvntion Army of New Zealand litis boon left £1000* and tho Sailors' Institute. Lyttelton. £200.

Several Presbyterian clergymen benefit under the will.
