MANAGER OF RAILWAYS.
MR HILEY'S SUCCESSOR
MR R. W. McVILLY APPOINTED
Mr R. AV. McVilly, Assistant-Gen-eral Manager of Railways, has been appointed General Manager as from April 30th next, when tho present manager, Mr E. H. _ Hiley, will retire. The term for which Mr Hiley was originally appointed expired in August last, and he expressed a wish then to have the engagement terminated, as lie desired to return to England. At the special request of the Government, Mr Hiley agreed to retain tho position till tho close of tho financial year. Mr McVilly's career in the Railway Department is well known. Ho joined as a lad, and worked steadily through the grades. Ho was chief clerk under 'Mr Ronayne (Mr Hiley's predecessor), and was promoted to tho status of Assistant-Gonoral Manager whon Sir Hiley was engaged. Mr McVilly is regarded as a competent administrator by those who are in a position to give a fair judgment in this matter.

WELLINGTON, February 9. There was a story in circulation recently that the new Manager of Railways was to bo Mr R. Iriggs. The Minister states that Mr Triggs'a name was never mentioned when the appointment was boing made by Cabinet. No applications wero called for the position. The whole 6tory was a fabrics tion.
