Before returning north she will bo,docked at Lyttelton to receive her annual > overhaul and survey. The Union Co.'s steamer Tarawwa, which is discharging Timaru cargo at Auckland, will load at the northern port for discharge at Lyttelton and Timaru. The R.M.S. Makura is expected to be ready for departure'from Auckland for Vancouver on January Bth, but 'she may be detained at, the New Zeiland port until one or two days later. The N.Z. Refrigerating Company's steamer Tainui reached Lyttelton yesterday morning with-a cargo - of "frozen produce from Wanganui. She sailed north last evening with general' csurgo. The arrival of the Breeze at Lyttelton ia ' cxpected to-day. She is coming from Dunedin, via Timarn. She will remain in port until the New Year, and will thereafter proceed to Picton and Wanganui. The Wanaka will proceed shortly from Wellington to Oamaru and Dunedin. After unloading she will be docked at Fort Chalmers for survey and overhaul. • ° _ SHIPPING AT AUCKLAND. - EFFECT OF WAR CONDITIONS. The number of shipping arrivals at the Port of Auckland was considerably affected by the outbreak of hostilities, and showed a marked decrease each year the war con- ' 'tinued. The net tonnage of arrivals —including ovets-ea, inter-colonial, and coastal-ship-ping—in 1913, was 1,938,050 tons.. In 1911— the .year .tho war .commenced—it was 1.970,808 tons, an increase of 32,758 tons. 'Hie following year, when shipping was reouisitioned for war purposes, the arrivals dropped to 1.810,833 tons, a decrease ol 350.976 tons. In 1916 the arrivals fell off by 67.28!) tons'compared with the prevous year, and in 1917 they decreased a further 235,963 tons 7 . For the 11 months of this year the arrivals totalled' 1,160,681 tons, so that if the monthly average is maintained for Dccemoei "the total for the year will bo 1,266,197 tons, a decrease en last year of 348,381 tons.
