SPORT IN MESOPOTAMIA.

A correspondent on service in Mesopotamia writes as follows:—"As regards this country, it ought to be good for sport after the ?;ar. Pigs, gazelles, and many .kinds of jackals, foxes, badgers, etc. are plentiful, while Bird life is phenomenal. Fish in the Tigris, Euphrates and Diala are extremely plentiful and very large. They are somewhat difficult to catch with bait, but fifty and sixty pounders are caught that way sometimes. The biggest fish I have actually heard of authentically. weighed 1601b. This was killed by a big H.E. shell. Another of 1601b was found dead, and the astonishing story is told that it was actually being swallowed by a much greater fish. It is a common belief here that bathing fatalities are caused by large fish seizing swimmers, and there have certainly been some remarkable accidents to account for this belief. Of course there. are a few sharks, but I am not referring to these, as it is generally known when sharks are about, as they show themselves. However, I would'much rather fish some stream in England, where the climate is so lovely, especially in summer. Summer here is no joke, and we all hope we shall not spend many more here."
