Air Horace Hill, who for the past ten years lias been in charge of the Stock Department at Gore, retires from the service at the end of this month (says the "Ensign"). Mr Hill js a colonist of 44 years standing, and for many years managed several of the most important sheep stations in the Otago Central.

Airs Lowe, of Ashley, has been advised that her son.. Sergeant T. A. Lowe, of the 11th Reinforcements., has been 'awarded the Military Medal, for callantry on the field of action. Mr A. D. Maefarlane, chief clerk in the Lands Office at Nelson, has received notice of his transfer to Palmerston North, whero he will open a branch of the Public Trust Office. Mr Maefarlane will take up his new duties on February Ist.

The Hon. J. A. Hanan (Minister of Education) and his family have been unable to leave for their home in lnvarcargiil owing to Mrs Hanan liav- ,■ ; seriously ill with heart trouble, due to influenza and subsequent collapse from the critical period of the epidemic. It will be a few •weeks beforo Mrs Hanan will be able to travel, but Mr Hanan hopes to be able to get away at the New Year, and spend the rest of the holidays in his constituency.

Private Claude Ewan "Kermode, who died at the Sanatorium, Cashmere Hills, and was accorded a military funeral last Saturday, was the youngest son of Mr Joseph Ivermode, 32 St. Asaph street. His two elder brothers both Main Body men, are still in England. Before enlisting, Private Kermode was a student at the School of Art, and showed great promise as an artist, having gained the College Medal, as well as scholarships and various prizes.

Advice has been received by Mr W. I. "Wadworth that his son, Lieutenant AY. AVadworth, who was wounded and taken prisoner at Cambrai in November, 1917, has reached England in good) health.

Advice has been received that Private Spencer F. Carver, M.M., is lying seriously ill of pneumonia, following influenza. at Codford Hospital. He enlisted at Auckland when 16 years of age, and left with tho N.Z.M.C. in No. 2 hospital ship .on its first trip three years ago. He was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry at Ypres when only 17 years of age. He served two years in France, and for the last year Las been on duty in England.
