CASUALTIES.

INQUEST. An inquest was opened at the Christchurch Hospital on-Tuesday, beforo Mr S. E. McCarthy, Coroner, on too body of. William Jaines Chapman, a single man aged 51, who resiued a.t 92 mistier street, Beckenham, and who was employed on th© waterfront at Lyttelton. On December 19th, while engaged on tho ltosamond, ho was struck on the hips by one of the lifeboats failing from the davits. Deceased was taken to ,the casualty ward at Lyttelton, where ho was examined by Dr. u pham, who ordered his removal home. 'Iwo days later he was ordered to t tho Christchurch Hospittvl by Drs. James and Anderson, and died on Monday. Evidence was given by his brother, Charles Chapman, alter which the inquest was adjourned until January 17tii, at 10 a.m., in the Courthouse, at Cnristchurch.

He was suffering from . some complaint, thought to be pleurisy, and was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital. An inquest will be held this morning on the body of William Walsh, aged 60 years, who was found dead in an outbuilding at his nephew's residence, Papanui, on Tuesday afternoon. A man named Hayes, employed by Sir Stevenson, Breeze's road, was' driving a milk cart at the corner of. Bealcy avenue and Colomo street on' Tuesday, when he collided with a tram-car. He was thrown out, and received severe cuts on the forehead, and was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital, but was able to leave - lor his home yesterday. I
