THE FALLEN AND WOUNDED. PERSONAL NOTES. A memorial to the late Captain R. J. S. Seddon, in the form of a memorial bell, was dedicated by the Right Rev. Dr. Sprott, Bishop of "Wellington, at th# Muritai Qhurch, on Sunday. The picturesquo little church was filled to overflowing, those present, at the ceremony including Mrs Seddon, Miss Mary Seddon, Captain and Mrs Knox Gilmer, Colonel and Mrs Morice and Miss Morice, Mr and Mrs Dyer and Miss Dyer, Mrs W. S. Bean (members of the deceased soldier's family). Sir John Findlay, Sir "William Hall-Jones, the Hons. G. W. Russell, J. A. Hanan, and; D. Buddo, Surgeon-General Henderson and Major A. A. Corrigan. Friends of tho deceased toldier assembled in large numbers, several motoring round from the city. The seiv" » was conducted by the Rev Mr Stent, vicar of Eastbourne. The bell, which was presented to the dhurch by Captain and Mrs Knox Gilmor, bore the following inscription: "In memory of Captain R. J. S. Seddon, killed in action, 1918." The dedication. ceremony having been performed, Captain Knox Gilmer tolled the bell thirty-six times, this repiesenting the number of 'years of Captain Seddon's life. The Bishop of "Wellington made a simple but striking address, in which, after reference to tie deceased soldier's career, he expressed the hope that there would be founded some great Imperial memorial to perpetuate the sacrifice made by those who fell in the great war.

Mr Knowles, of The Downs, Geraldine, has received word that his eldest son, Lieutenant John Knowles, of the oth N.Z. Machine-Gun Company, has died in England of bronchial pneumonia.

Engineer Lieutenant Edward Charles Roi Young",' R.N.R., son of Mrs Young, 55 Bowen street, Wellington (late of Christchurch), died on December 19th, at Haslar Hospital, from pneumonia. The late Sub-Lieutenant, who was 29 years of age, left New Zealand with the 28th Reinforcements, but later received a commission in the Navy, serving for some time in H.M.S. .Teutonic, which was engaged on important work in the danger zone. When he enlisted, Mr Voung was an engineer in one of the Union Steam Ship Company's steamers, and -had been for 6ome time in the transport service. He was an ex-student of Canterbury College. His brother, Mr John Young, left New Zealand with the Main Body, and after between two and three years' active service in Egypt, was invalided back to New Zealand. Deceased's brother-in-law, Lieutenant Arthur Aldridge, was killed on Gallipoli towards the end of 1915. The late Mr tfoung was married in 1914 to a daughter of Mr W. Lynskey, of Kaiapoi, but his wife* died in 1915.
