Pyjama was sprinted, and Bon Spec, who is showing signs 6i lameness, ' trotted a couple of circuits in the centre. . .

■ Kilrnsh, who leaves for Auckland to-night, put up what was easily the best gallop of the morning, running six furlongs in lmin 16Jsec. He did it comfortably, and pulled up well.

"Winter Cherry,' who is a doubtful starter at the Dunedin and Southland' Meetings, cantered a circuit, and the M&rajax filly sprinted six furlongs with Tortrix. The latter was not keen to gallop over the first two furlongs, but was going strongly at the business end. time was lmin 23 3-sth sec. After cantering a round Punka was to have run a second circuit at a strong pace, with a stable mate to bring her home, but the lad mistook his instructions, and did not go better than half-pace at any stage of ihe proceedings. This filly is going to Dunedin, where she will be ridden by F. Ellis.

After running four furlongs in 52eec, Jingo was given a,tum in the'jumping ring, where he did not perform as well as usual, probably because h®-had.a rugjon.

TEe president 6a id that since the last meeting Mr IV. J. Gore, a former member of the Association, and also vice-president of the Trotting Conference, had passed away. When tho news of Mr Gore's death had reached Chris tchurch, he had communicated with Mr H. L. James, asking him to convey to Mrs Gore and the members of her family the sympathy of the Association, and had also asked him to forward a wreath to the funeral on behalf of the Association. This Mr James had done, and in a letter to the Association he said thA the late Mr Gore was a true sportsman, who would be much missed. The president read a copy of the letter he had sent to Mr James, in which he paid a tribut© to Mr Gore's services to the sportMr Gore, he said, was indeed a true sportsman, and no finer compliment could be paid to any man. On the motion of the president a vote of condolence was passed to Mrs Gore and the members of her family, and also to the families of all other sportsmen who had died n-rr the recent epidemic. It was also decided to send a letter of condolence to Mr W. J. Hopkins, a member of the Board, whoso son had died on active service.

NEW ZEALAND DERBY NOMINATIONS.

The following letter waa received from, the secretary of the Now Brighton Trotting Club, „n^ r date December 12th: —"I am instructed to report as follows in connexion with tho payments ior the Derbys due on December 2nd, 1918; for the Derby, 1919—nominations for this raco were advertised to close on December Ist. 1916, at 6 p.m., and further payments on December 2nd, 1918,. and in March, 1919 at 1- noon. The Derby of 1921—nominations for this raco were advertised to close on December 2nd, 1918, at 12 noon. Several owners came in to make payments, and to nominate after the advertised hour for closin"' and were refused by me as secretary. A number of those who were late for making* payment for the Derby, 1919, represented to members of the committee that, the payment for this race wna advertised originally to close at 8 p.m. Consequently an iniormal meeting was held, and believing the statement made by those interested to be correct, and under the distressing circumstance® that #11

working under caused by the influenza epidemic, the above statement was not questioned, and as the club had only a short time previously decided to close ail nominations, acoeptanoes, etc., at 12 noon, they werti of opinion a mistake had been made, and issued instructions to postpone the closing of payments and nominations for both Derbys until 12 noon the following day. My committeo row find that thoy were wrong, as the original advertisement distinctly stated that tho hour for closing was 12 noon. In consequence of the closing having been extended, a number of additional payments •were made for both Derbye, and my committee now ask th> ruling of your Association if these "were legally made in accordance with the Rules of Trotting, and if not that the same bo declared null and void." Messrs Dc-nton and Hopkins, being members of tho New Brighton Club, withdrew from tho table while this question was under consideration. The president 6aid that tho matter was very simple. Tho committee had recognised that their action was illegal, and that ended it. If the committee had had any idea that the epidemic was interfering with tho prospects of the race, it was a pity that they had not decided, before the advertised hour, to extend tho closing lime, and advertised tho extension a 6 provided by tho Rules. There waa only one thing for to do, that wae to declare the nominations and payments taken after tho advertisod time null and void, and it was agreed that thi3 should bo do no. GENERAL BUSINESS. Correspondence was received in connexion, with the nomination of W. G. Abbott's horses after tho assignment of hia estate. It wa3 decided to call upon Mr Abbott to Bhow cause wliy hsLd not uotiii*fl tlio Association of the assignment as provided by the rules. An opinion was received from, the Boards solicitor in reference to tho lease of the horeo Prince Huon, leased by G. Grant to Bransby White. The latter sought to transfer the horse to W. Smith, but Grant objected to tho transfer. Tho Board's solicitor held that Grant waa within his rights in objecting to the transfer, and that the matter was ono of ordinary legal rights as between White and Grant, with which ho considered the Board should not concern- itself. It was decided that the Board should' not agree to the transfer. A lelier was read from Mr Grant in reference to the running of a certain race at tho Weßtport Jockey Club's Meeting, and it waa decided to request the club to hold an enquiry into the matter. The Winton Jockey Club reported that at its recent meeting T. Blee had been called off for starting before time.

It was decided that tho customary caution as provided by the Rules should be administered.

The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club reported that A. Hendricksen, H. Murfitt, and J. Wright had been fined for starting before tirae at the club'a November Meeting. In each of the3e cases a _ caution will be administered by the Association. J. Wright applied for a remission of the fine, and it was decided to inform him that he niuei apply to the club. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting' Club also reported that A. Butterfield's riding of General Wilkes in the St. Albans Handicap itt Aldington last mouth had been questioned, but the explanation given had been accepted. The Ranfurly Racing Club wrote asking •whether the Board would pass a programme containing all trotting events. It was decided to reply that in accordance with the rules the programme could include only three trotting events. J. Sutherland, 6en., applied to the Board for the removal of the balance of bis disqualification. for two years imposed in March, 1917 . . .. It was decided to make from the secretary of the Hororata Racing Club. Licenses as recommended by the Licensing Committee were issued. The youths Albert G. Kearns and J. H. J. Wright were granted riders' licenses only. The committee recommended that the sum of £16 and an amount to oaver medical expenses be voted out of the Provident Fund to Hugh. Ke&rns in. rcbpoet of his xeseVt accident. The report was adopted. Programmes as passed by the executive were approved. Tit© profrrammes of the Forburv Park Trotting Club for. January-31st and February lot, and of the Wmton Trotting Club for February sth were passed, but the latter club was instructed to reduce the number of optional races from three to two.
