SECOND-HAND CLOTHES.
SALES RESTRICTED
The allegation was made by Mr JVigor Brown in Parliament on Tuesday that bedding from houses where pneumonia patients had died was being sold in "Wellington and Auckland auotion rooms. The Minister of Public Health promised to go into the matter, and has now given-instructions to all ciucr health officers, as follows:— 3 To request all cities, boroughs, or town districts to establish public disinlectinf sand fumigating chambers, the number in each centre to be m accordance with tho necessities of the case. 2. That all clothing or bedding us ®" bv patients shall be passed through the chamber, unless dealt with privately to the satisfaction of the sanitary mspecio!j. That all sales by auction or public sales of used bedding or clothing be prohibited, unless certified aa haying passed through a public disinfecting chamber. 4. Purchases of clotliing «iud bedding by second-hand dealers to bo prohibited •unless certified as fumigated. 5. AH bank notes received by banks to be disinfected before reissue. 6. All libraries to disinfect books on receipt. Cheap and effectivo methods of fumigation are to bo advertised by the Department at once in regard to clothing and bedding, which can be fumigated in private liouses. Under these conditions special attention is to be paid to hotels and boarding-houses,-and discre- [ tion will be given to tho sanitary inspectors' department in tho administration of tho instructions.
