DEATH OF FAMOUS COMPOSER.

LIZA LEHMANN. (By Cable.—Frai Association.—Copyricht.) (Austtaiian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON September 22. The death is announced of Liza Lohmann, the composor. Liza Lehmann (Mrs Herbert Bedford) was born in London. She was a daughter of Rudolf Lehmann, artist. She studied singing under her mother and Signor R,andegger, and composition under in Rome, Fruedonlierg, in Wiesbaden, and Hamish MacCunn, in London. She made her professional debut' as a soprano at a Monday Popular Concert in '1885, and from then, until her marriage in 1894, sang at the principal concerts in the' Kingdom. She was appointed Vocal Professor at the Guildhall School •of Music in 1914. Among her compositions are:—Song Cycle, for four solo voices,' with pianoforte accompaniment, entitled, In a Porsian Garden," the words bojng from the Rubaiyat- of Omar Khayyam; a sotting for baritone solo, chorus and orchestra, of Scott's "Young Lochnivar;" two,musical duologues (words by Austin Dobson); "The Secrets of the Heart," and "Good Night, BnbetteEndymion (Longfellow). scona for soprano and orchestra; 'In Memoriam" (words selected from Tennyson): a song-cycle for a solo voice, with pianoforte• accompaniment: Daisy Chain" (twelve songs of childhood): "More - Daisies)'' "Once. Unon a Time"., (a fairy cantata), and "Sergeant Brne" (a musical farce, hook bv Owen Hall); Romantic Suite, for violin and niano; 'The Vicar • Wakefield" (lipht romantic onera): "The Golden Threshold," an Indian pnne-garlnnd -(cantata); "NonSensA Prongs from Alice., in Wonderland" (Von# cy^le),, many separate songs, the author of "Practical Hints for Students of Singing." ..
