DOMINION DAY.
Dominion Day was observed as a holiday yesterday by the Government offices, banks, and a nupiber of business offices, but the Bhops remained open. In practically all the schools the pupils were given a holiday, though in one or two they were assembled for the purposo of hearing brief addresses on the significance of the day. MESSAGE TO NEW ZEALAND SOLDIERS. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAU.) WELLINGTON, September 23. Sir James Allen Bent th© following message to the New Zealand soldiers on the Western front and in Palestine: — Though you cannot be with us on Dominion Day, wo are thinking of you and of all the brave men and women who have lived and died for New Zealand. The hearts in the Homeland beat quicker as we read of your doings, and there is universal reioioing in the great part you are taking with the army advancing to victory. Dominion Day has now a dooper significance, because you have added, and will add, still further lustre to the name.
