The severe floods • in the river on September 17th and 18th, 1 ■ rising Bft 2in and 9ft lOin on the gates, ~ hod not done any damage to the headrace 1 or headworke beyond lowering a couple of - chains of No. 1 bolster, which could be re5, paired without extra cost of labour or , material. The team had been employed in ' removing slips from tho long track, and cleaning the "nine chains," and a few days " more should oompleie this work. _ The tun>5 xtel would then receive attention. The • river during the' floods had greatly tended S to the north, with the consequence that an immense body of water was now coming round past the intake, but its future position ocrald not be gauged until it became normal. The main race in the Oxford district had been cleaned in several places, and a. rotten flurao off Starvation Hill at a dangerous place had been replaced by pipes and concrete ends. The concrete ends of raoe crossings and culverts in the Mandeville district had been plastered, and a concrete flume placed in the race between ' Messrs Leech's and Merrin's, Swannanoa, doing away with timber work. It was resolved- that general cleaning time for the water trupply district, excepting Eangiora and Fernside, bo for one week from October 7th, Eangiora and Fernside to be a little later for four days. In reply to a letter from Mr H. On the motion of Mr Moderate, seconded by Mr Ryan, it was opreod to obtain a photograph of the late chairman for hanging in the i>oard-room. Mr John Cowan applied for a culvert over' the race at the entrance to his new house. It was agreed that the Board do the work, he to pay for material and the necessary carting and filling.
