THE " V.C.' PIGEON.
v — : —; —♦ A recent addition to the museum yt the .Royal United Service Institution, "Whitehall, London, is a military pigeon, No. 2709, whioh. "died of wounds received in action." While flying with a message to divisional headquarters from the front line, in the region of Menin road, on October 3rd .last, tho bird was hit by a bullet, which broke a leg, drove the message-carrier into its body, and passed through its back. In spite of its wounds, the bird struggled home through the rain to its loft, a distance of nine miles, and delivered the message the following day at 10.00 a.m. It died shortly afterwards.
