"Between August 26th and September Ist our aeroplanes, working with tht Navy, carried out successful -aids at Ostend and Zeebrugge, dropping 13 tons of explosives with excellent results. Large fires were started, > and two direct hits obtained on an anti-aircraft battery. There were many bursts at the docks. We destroyed two machines* and drove down another uncontrollable. All the British machines returned. "Our aeroplanes maintained a constant reconnaissance at the Dardanelles, and bombed Constantinople tn the nights of August 25th and 27th with good results. The attacks were directed against arsenals, dockyards, the War Office, and barracks. We also, in co-operation with a Greek unit, heavily bombed an aerodrome at Galata, and a seaplane base at Clianak, Gallipoli. One British machine has not returned." AIR, MINISTRY'S REPORT?. The Air Ministry reports:— "On the afternoon of August 3rd we successfully attacked the aerodrome at Morhange, directly hitting several hangars and blowing up two machines on the ground. All our machines returned. On tho liight of August 3rd we again heavily bombed the aerodrome at Morhange, hitting more hangars, and starting fires. We also attacked tho aerodrome at Boulay, aft blast furnaces at Esch, directly hitting the furnaces, and starting fires at Boulay. All our machines" returned. On the morning of August 4th w© attacked the aerodrome at Morhange, hitting at least seveu hangars. All the bombs burst well. We also attacked aerodromes at Buhl with good results. Sir Douglas.Haig's aviation report states:—"Our aeroplanes and balloons co-operated effectively in the advance on August 3rd. We dropped 21 tons of bombs in the day-time, and 21 tons at night-time. Wo destroyed 19 hostile aeroplanes, and drove down seven uncontrollable. Ten British machines are missing."
