TRADERS MURDERED.
CANNIBALISM IN NEW BRITAIN,
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) SYDNEY, August 12. News by an Island steamer reports the murder of two white traders on one of the outlying islands of the New Britain group. The victims were surrounded by a horde of savages and butchered. The bodies were cooked and eaten. The natives concerned are showing a further hostile fcoling. A punitive expedition was despatched and surprised a well-armed force of nativos at Kororo and a desperate encounter resulted. Sixty natives were shot and others were taken prisoners. The expedition visited a second village and punished the murderers. •
