CASUALTIES.
(rRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) 12. / John Patton, aged 55, a tramway labourer, was knocked down by a motorcar on the Khybsr i'ass road and killed instantly, his nejk being broken. WELLINGTON, August 12. A fatal motor-cycle accident occurred at Carterton this afternoon. Percy Parker was proceeding into the town on his motor-cyc.e, and reached the Kent street crossing at the same time as the 3.25 train from Masterton. The engine gave the usual crossing signal, which apparently was not heard by the motorist, who crashed into the sixth truck behind the engine. Parker was thrown some distance back against afence and frightfully injured. A doctor was quicklv on the scene, and ordere-1 his removal to the Greytown Hospital, but he died before reaching the institution. The deceased was 21 years of age, and was to have gone into camp on Wednesday.
