Roberts, Minister of Labour, speaking at Maidstone, cmphasised tuo importance ot increasing home production. The Hon. G. N. Barnes, a member of the War Cabinet, speaking at Palmer's Green, said that this year's harvest, if •used for the purpose of brood alone, will be sufficient for all the needs of the population for forty weeks. He was aware that some grain would be used for boer. THE SUGAR CONVENTION. LONDON, August 11. The Government is notifying the signatories to the Brussels Sugar Convention of Britain's withdrawal from the 1911 pledge, under which she promised not to give Empire cano sugar preference over beet sugar.
