(Before Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Sis first offenders for drunkenness trere each fined os, in default 24 hours' •imprisonment. William Tierney, alias Wukie Collins, and Charles Alfred, j Brewer, alias were each fined 10s and costs, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. '• CIVIL BUSINESS. Judgment by default, with costs, was awarded plaintiff in each of the following civil cases: —Massey, Harris Co., Ltd. v. Takiari, £1 19s lOd; T. Armstrong and Co., Ltd. v. E. W. Harris, | £10 7s 3d: Marmaduke Rodmayne and i William Henry Meyers (trading as Bishop and Co.) v. J. Marsden, 6d; samo v. E. A. Manchester, 9s (costs only); samo v. L. Arnold, lis: F. I>. Kestoven v. E. L. Button, £50; William E. Stevens v. John Cogar. £5 10s; Isabella liucks v. Alice Maud Mary Compton, £29 19s 7d. DEFENDED CASES. Henry Smith (Mr Cuningham) claimed from George Cowrie (Mr McDougall) £9 lis 6d wages. Defendant admitted 12s 6d of the claim, and after evidence had been heard judgment was given foi the -amount admitted., without costs,while defendant.-was allowed solicitor's fee on the balance of the claim. In the case of Robert Black (Mr Johnston) v. Joseph Davies (Mr Walton), claim for return of horse or £20, its value, judgment was given for plaintiff for £20 and costs, the horse having been lost. AUCKLAND CRIMINAL SESSIONS. (PRESS ASSOCIATION" TELEGRAM J AUCKLAND, August 12. The Supreme Court criminal sessions opened to-day. In his charge to the Grand Jury Mr Justice Stringer commented on the comparatively small number of charges, though it was regrettable that six of tho ten accused were charged with sexual offences. Thomas May, who had pleaded guilty to two charges of incest, was sentenced to 6even years' imprisonment. Stanley Ernest Hobday, for theft at Gisborne, was admitted to probation for twelffc months.
