The ■ National Hurdles candi-: flat* looks well after his trip north. Missouri and King Star were evenly matched in their gallop, while there was nothing to choose between oaxby S3 Jingo at the end of a dash over five furlong,,in which both were doing their tost. _ _ The well-known horseman. It. M. Hewitt, who was passed as fit to go into camp, has been suffering from a stiff neck ever since he got a faJl at Hastings a month or so ago. Tto was so acute on the second day of the Wellington Meeting that he could not fulfil Es riding engagements, and was m pdinnlly advised to go into hospital and have the neck column photographed. . It is thought that there is a partial dislocation. Point Blank, who pulled up lame after work about a fortnight ago, is p<min in commission. He still goes short, but is improving. Meltchikoff, Moddite, NotabUity, Royal Prince, Captain Loch, and Good Hope, arrived at Riccarton yesterday. On the second day Cairns won the Keilor Hurdle Race, two miles, on Hobgoblin (Famous —Mxie). The Ellerslie trainer, A. Julian, suffered another stroke of misfortune yesterday (says the "New Zealand S3" of Tuesday last) when Hibernian, the brother to Tararu Jack, broke away from his attendant while being led along the road, Mid after bolting for some distance, finally feU heavily. When secured it was found that Hibernian was severely injured, and his trainer is doubtful whether the horse will survive. At the time of the occurrence, a stable boy was nding AJI Talk, who also took fright an 3 unseated the lad, though, fortunately, neither the boy nor All Talk suffered any prions injury-as a result of tho. escapade. Acceptances for the South Canterbury Hunt Steeplechase Meeting close at § o'clock this evening. Wednesday's ''Greymouth Star" savs —A wonderful record—probably unequalled in the Dommion-was dtaSged at the smoke concert last evening, when Mr Coates mentioned that one guest of the evening.
