Who was the most correct pre-war prophet? The friends of Mr Shirley Benn, junior M.P. for Plymouth, are reading in pamphlet form the speech he delivered in the House in May, 1914, and claiming that he was the most accurate war prophet ever known. He certainly foresaw the war in the immediate future, the danger of the food supply, the increase of freights and insurance, the danger from torpedoes, aircraft, and submarines, the closing of the Dardanelles,. the perils of the Mediterranean passage, the blockade or Germany, and the payment of a bounty to farmers "on the growth of corn. Of course h© was laughed at.
