ARTHUR'S PASS TUNNEL.
MEETING OF HEADINGS. . , DATE OF OFFICIAL CEREMONY . FIXED. , •* V '' _ 1 The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr H. j Holland), who, is also president of the Arthur's Pass Tunnel League, yesterday received a letter from the Minister of i Public Works (Sir William JPraeer) sug- :' 1 , gesting Wednesday, August 21st, as a '■ suitable date upon which to hold tho | official ceremony in connexion with the ; meeting of the headings in the ' • Pass tunnel. The Minister stated that by the date mentioned it was certain 1 that the headings wonld hnve met, andi it would also avoid clashing with the Grand National fixture. The Mayor intends replying that the date suggested will bo suitable. Mr Holland has roceived an offer from the Lyttelton Marine Band of its services in connexion with the ceremony. Further arrangements in connexion with the ceremony will be made as the date upon which it is to be held draws nearer.
