Regarding tho list of men reported missing in lust night's casualty lisfc < the Defence Department has issued i circular to the nearest relatives stating that cabled information has been received that probably a largo number have been taken prisoner. Cabled enquiries are being made, and the relatives will be advised of the result.

.Mr E. K. Miilgan. senior inspects of schools for the Auckland district (lato of Christchurch), lias remvod advico that his son, Lieut. Geoffrey Mulgan. of the Itoyal Garrison Artillery, who was formerly a solicitor in Auckland, is now convalescent, after sovornl months treatment in a London hospital. has been recommended for home service until fit for active service.

Corporal P. H. N. Frocth, eldest son of Mr P. C. Freeth, of Palmerston North (late of Christchurch), who took part in tho recent fighting in France, wns transferred to a hospital m England on May 11th, suffering from trench fever.

Ho left New Zealand with tho 32nd Reinforcement draft. Ho had only boen in the firing-line about six weeks whon he met his death. Before enlisting, the deceased soldier was in the employ of Messrs George, Doughty, and Co., Wellington. Ho was well known in sport; circles, being a member of tho Wellington East B senior cricket eleven: he also played in tho Y.M.C.A. First Division Association football team. For tho last few years ho had been associated with tho Young Men's Club of the Cambridge Terrace Congregational Church. Corporal Swiney's brother. Sergeant K. Swiney, returned to New Zealand recently, aijd on receiving his discharge joined the literary staff of the "Dominion."

Mrs A. O'Halloran, 128 Antigua street, Sydenham, has been advised that her son, Private Clarence O'Halloran, was admitted to hospital in England on May 11th suffering from trench fever. Private O'Halloran received gas burns, severe, last November. Ho enlisted three times, and was finally accepted for tho 28th Reinforcements.

Tho Hon. T. Mac Gibbon has received cabled advico that his son, Lieut. R. G. Mac Gibbon, of tho Royal Engineers, ■who wjus recently reported as wounded, has recovered and returned to tho front.

Mrs M. Baxter, lato of Greymouth, now residing in Bishop street, Christchurch, has received advico that her son, Lance-Corporal W. J. Baxter, in reported missing lietween April 12th and 19th.

Mr T. Archey, Burnham Industrial School, has received advice that his eon, Lieut, Gilbert!!. Archey, wounded in action some time ago, is making satisfactory progress in hospital in Engjpnd.

Mr R. Stephens, Harper street, Sydenham, has received advice that 'his son, Driver H. S. (Stan) Stephens, has been admitted to hospital in Franco, suffering from disordered action of the heart. He left with the 9th Reinforcements, and was wounded at Armentieres in July, 1916. After being seven months in England, he returned to France.

Mr G. Clark, Tinwald, has been advised that his brother, Private A. Clark, has boen reported missing. Privato Clark left with the 31st Reinforcements.

Washington .contains a letter from President Wilson enjoining the orderly observance of the Sabbath by tho officers and men in the military and naval service of the United States. "The importance for man and beast of prescribed weekly rest," ho Bays, "the sacred rights of Christian soldiers and sailors, a becoming deference to th» best sentiment of a. Christian people, and a duo regard for tho Divine will, demand that Sunday labour in tne Army and Navy be reduced to the measure of strict necessity."
