BRITISH ENTERPRISE.
TO THE EDITOB OF "THE FBESS."
Sir, —In ycur sub-leador of to-day you draw attention to British enterprise after the war, and refer to making clasps for ladies' purses. In concluding same, you Kay: "Before tho war few people would hare believed that so much enterprise could be displayed by tho S'ow-goinj; Britisher." SuTely this is a slur on Britishers generally," as before the war they would not be bothered with making such things; they had ranch more important enternnse to tackle For my part, I used "to think Britishers were inclined to be slow and sure until I left those enterprising islands, but when I saw others, I come to the conc.usion that Britain was mile* ahead of them. It apnears to me that because British manufacturers' before the war would not scrip tlioir machinery to supply cheap shoddy articles to meet small markets, they were called slowgoms. but they always went in for quality, not Qnantitv as everyone knews Let us put the boot on tho other-lop. and suppose that Britain did ??* n t, Woo ' goatshair, would we kill off °ur sheep and prow goats. I do not thmk we should be such fools, neither would the Britisher Anyone who imagines that Britain Was slowgoing beforo the war, let them look up Almanac and seo tho imports and exports for themselves. Tho i British were alwav s ahead of other na- i tions.. burely this is not slow-going! I Britain is, always was. miles ahead , of others. on.y she does not skite about it; she has no need to.—Yours. et f> . >
