SCHOOL COMMITTEES' ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of the Canterbury School Committees' Association was hold last evening, Mr A. Peverill presiding. The annual report and balance-sheet (already published) were adopted. The chairman introduced to tho meeting Mr W. M. Hamilton, a newly-elected member of tho Couucil of Education. Tho Association passed a motion congratulating Mr Hamilton upon his appointment. Mr Hamilton briefly responded. Officers were elcctcd as follows:—President, Mr W. Jones; vice-president, Mr C. H. Winriy; hon. secretary, Mr C. S. Thompson; hon. treasurer, Mr D. K. Haberfield; committee, Messrs D. House, C. V. Harvey, A. Peverill, D. K. Haberfield, and S. McAlister, and Mrs Merry.
Messrs W. Jones A. Peverill, and C. S. Thompson were appointed delegates to the conference of educational bodies regarding continuation classes.
The following resolution was carried: — "That this meeting of tlxe Canterbury School Committees' Association protests meet emphatically against the threatened introduction of the thin end of the denominational wedgo into the domain of national education by tiio payment of scholarship allowances and tuition fees to any schools other than these established under the Education Act, 1908, and its several amendments."
It was recommended to tho incoming committee that a Dominion confcreneo of School Committees' Associations be held at as early a date as possible.
