ANNUAL CONFERENCE

(PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.)

WELLINGTON, May 23

The annual Dominion conference of the Empire Service League opened 'oday. The report stated that six branches have been established in New Zealand. The Leagued objects havo been clearly defined as follows: —(1) To unite more thoroughly for the defence of the Empire, and for tho extension of the freedom wo have inherited ; (2) to mould an educational policy based on «he principle of national service; (3) to influence public opinion on the danger to society of permitting poverty, waste, and idleness : (4) to influence opinion among employers and employees in favour of closer and more sympathetic relations. The report deals with the information jrnined and the work done by Mr Witherby (organiser) in a four months' tour of the South Island. The necessity of co-operation between capital -nd labour is emphasised, and the removal of misunderstandings urged.
