Jnscph AJoanoy, who pleaded not guilty to charges of drunkenness and using obscene language, was convicted and discharged on the first charge, and lined 40s on the second. Annie Hancock (Mr C. S. Thomas), who pleaded guilty to a charge of using obscene language, was convictcd and ordered to coine up for sentence when called upon, on the understanding that .she would not be called upon if she left Chnstcluirch forthwith. FACTORY ACT CASES. Charles Bell, of Hell Bros. (Mr 0. T. J. Alpers) was charged with failing to keep a time and wages book, to let an employee off at 1 o'clock on the Saturday half-holiday, to pay overtime (two charges), and to pay sufficient overtime, also extending hours without the Inspector's warrant, and employing a boy without a certificate of fitness. Defendant was convicted on each charge, and fined in all £4 ss, S. Kerison, charged with failing to close his shop at 5 p.m., was fined 40s and costs. C. Clancy, a barman employed at the Al Hotel, was fined os and costs for failing to sign a holiday book. Wardell Bros. (Mr C. S. Thomas), charged with failing to pay overtime and to keep a time anfl wages book, was fined 10s and 20s respectively. A. Bates was fined 5s for failin" to sign a rccord or holiday book. Grace Johnson and M. Brown were each fined os for a similar offence. BREACH OF ORDER. James charged with a breach of his prohibition order, was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. ASSAULT. Alma A era Keith and [vy Brown (Mr j J. A. Cassidy) were chargc<] with assaulting two little girls, Winifred and Eileen Mooney. I Robert Dickson Warden, alias Lawrence. who escaped from custody in the Templeton gaol recently, was charged with escaping from a place of confinement, and with breaking and entering the dwelling-house of W. F. W. Hope, at Shirley, and stealing goods and money to the value of £20. Accused pleaded guilty to the first charge and not guilty to the second, and was committed to the Supreme I Court for sentence and trial respec-1 tively.

At the Supreme Court this morning, I Clarence Herbert Grocott. aged eighteen, who had pleaded guilty in the lower Court to forgery at Onmaru, was admitted to probation for three Tears. Accused was a postal employee, and i'orged a receipt for a registered letter in order to cover up a fault in connexion with a letter. The money taken from the letter, £'2, had been refunded.
