(Leithfield); Tospor, E. J. L.. T.-Seri;t. (Motueka). THE FALLEN AND WOUNDED. PERSONAL NOTES j Mr and Mrs A. Steel, of Riccarton, have received advice that their young~est son. Driver Francis J. Steel, was admitted to the First Southern General Hospital on April 24th, suffering from severe wounds' in the back, and fractured libs. Driver Steel volunteered "in Australia, and left with the Australian Field Artillery. In a letter just received by his parents, ho stated that he had received his first leave from the firing lino during a period of throe years. Prior to leaving New Zealand he was with Messrs Bowron Bros. Mr and Mrs Steel's second son, who left with tho 23rd Reinforcements, was killed in action last October. Mr R. W. Arnold, Manchester street, St. Albans, has received advice that his son, 2nd Lieutenant Arthur J. Arnold, of tho 30th Reinforcements, I who was wounded in the left knee and admitted to hospital in France about the end of April, has been transferred to a hospital in England. Mr J. Argyle, Ashburton, has , received word that his son, Private G. Argyle, was admitted to hospital in England on May 13th, suffering from jaundice.- Private Argyle left w'ith the 30th Reinforcements. \ Mrs P. Connolly, Greenstreet, Ashburton, has received advice that her son, Rifleman S. Connelly ? has been transferred to a hospital in -England. Rifleman Connelly, who left with the 9th Reinforcements, Jias had his left leg amputated. Lieutenant James Edward Biggar (wounded) left New Zealand with the 6th Reinforcements. He was educated afr the Croydon Bush school and Gore District High School, and is a son of Mr George Biggar, Croydon Bush, Gore. Before enlistment he was employed in the post office, Gore. For manv years he played for the now defunct Excelsior football team, Gore, and represented Southland for six years in succession, and in 1911 represented South Island against North Island. At the meeting of the Sumner Life Saving Club, held last night, the chairman, Mr H. Buttle, made feeling reference to the great loss suffered by the death of Corporal A. B. Christensen, who had been killed in action. He at one time held the position of secretary of the club, and he had always been a very energetic member since its inception. Mr Buttle moved that the committee place on record its deep appreciation of the services of the late Corporal Christensen, pnd also forward to his parents a letter of condolence.The motion was carried in silence, all standing.
