LADY LIVERPOOL FUND.

TRE-XCH COMFORT NOTES

The President and Central Committee of the above organisation wish tae branches aud individual supporters ot our lund to bo notniug daunted in the apparent modest puoncity given m recent weeks to our wants. . .

Conserving our iuuus we are relying greatly on the silent asking tnat couies iroin tne boys themselves.

Alon oy, Gilts, Service. —All aro urgently needod. The impending further t>u<_-my attack, coicsaui in its irighfuiJicsj, will got its rcpiy irom tho Lady Liverpool Fund, in renewed determination to stand by the boys at the front with a bombardment oi the best gift parcels wo can send them. Space forbid,s the inclusion of many letters from the boys. One received oil Tuesday of last week (.a bit longer than the average,) is interesting, and embodies what hundreds of others say:— The Hon. See. Lady Liverpool Fund. "Dear Madam, —I beg to acknowledge receipt of a parcel from you dated, according to card, August, containing handkerchiefs, balaclava, socks, laces, tin nf tongues, moat paste, tobacco, fish, milk, tea, and sugar. The parcels arrived at our company to-day, and they panned out ono por man. We owe you ladies a dobt of gratitude, and you must accept our somewhat clumsy thanks. We mess in gun teams, and wo hare put all the eatables into the common lot, and they make an imposing array. We start*on them to-morrow. JL-or my own part I'm already well into tho tobacco. I'm burning incense to you now. The tin I got saved; the situation. My thanks to you. I suppose most of tho boys will send_ a card to you, but in caso they don't, I may tell you that every"body in the second Machine Gun Coinpan got one to-day. We have a rule hero that the address has to bo put in the body of the lotter, so hero is mine (40433 Private P. Burton), B Company, N.Z.M.G. Company, N.Z.E.F., Franco. This will let you know to what arm nf the servico your parcel went. Well, madam, I will concludo by saying that I hope you got as much pleasure out of sending them as we do in receiving tho parcels. It is not only the parcel, it is what it indicates. Our people have not forgotten us. Good-bye, and good luck.—l remain, faithfully yours, Percy Burton." Another lad tells us that "Bully" cannot be given away. A naivo way of intimating that the boys appreciate the Now Zealand tinned tongues and food. SOCKS.—Wo cannot get tbo many of theso, but a soldier boy varies the monotony of asking for the same thing so often by a request for "Anti-cold feet equipment." Who can withstand this appeal? HEADQUARTERS.—-General Richardson has oxpressed a wish that the fund increaso tho parcels by 6000. Our quota extra will bo 1500. PRISONERS OF WAR.—For some months tho department in connexion with this Depot has been sending cases of_ foodstuffs direct to the High Commissioner for transmission abroad in parcel form for "New Zealand soldiers only." Contributions for this department, either in kind or money, are urgently needed. No money is sent away, as the fund recognises that much valuo to tho New Zealand soldier in receipt of a parcel lies in the fact that the gift is New Zealand produce. CASES.—We thank most' sincerely thoso persons and firms who have given cases this month', and rely on a continuance of supplies in quantities we hesitate to ask for; we just cannot do without them. _ PAPERS.—The paper sollers of the city this week havo joined the army of Helpers, and sent along a quantity of "Jubilee Star" numbers for inclusion in tho soldiers' parcels. As tho month's shipment is just completing tho boys will rolish up-to-date news embodied in a "Jubilee Star" from Christchurch. Well done, ment Tho lucky number for the bouquet at the Liverpool Flower Stall on Monday was 27, Mr Ferguson, Rangiora. It was given back and resold.
