Tho Empson-Jillwood recital, in ■which a treat is promised to lovers of music, takes place to-morrow evening in the Choral Hall. A trio recital is invariably a popular fixture, and when given by three such instrumental artists as Messrs Harry and George Ellwood and Ernest i*mpson, it cannot help but bo one of the most successful musical fixtures of the winter. Their onsemblo playing is said to be excep-> tionallv happy, and trios by some of the greatest composers are promised. Miss Millicent Jennings lias been chosen as vocalist. Seats may be reserved at Robert Francis's. A thoughtful feature in connexion v ith the, recital is that the hall will be specially heated to enmi,vo the comfort of those attending the concert. Tho Young Women's Christian Association has just completed four years' residence in the present building, Latimer square, and on Sunday tnis was commemorated by an anniversary service, when tho address was given by the Bev. P. .J. Cocks. Mrs Kayo, who presided, spoke with much gratitude of the growth and progress of tho Association since the removal from the old premises in Madras street, just four years ago, when the membership, now 800, stood at about 300. Already the present building is proving inadequate, and a third storey is being added to the hostel. • At the social tea hour, held after 'ho service, it was decided to send a letter of greeting to Miss Elia MacNeil, now Y.W.C.A. secretary in Shanghai, but for four years general secretary in Christchurch, whose untiring efforts for the work hero will not soon he formatten. Lemon Pie. —Mix together in a saucepan one cup of cold water, threeouarters of a cup of granulated sugar, the grated rind and juice of one lemon, and bring to a boil. Then stir in one tablespoon of corn-starch, wet with a little cold water, and add the Leaten yolk of an egg. Have readv a pie tin, lined with a crust already "baked, and pour the lemon mixture into it. Beat the white of an egg until stiff, sweeten with a little sugar, and spread the meringue over the pie. Set it in the oven a few minutes to brown. Another filling is made the same wpv, except that three eggs are used, instead of one, which means, of course, a richer filling.
