The Sumner Borough Council met list niglit. Present—Tho Mayor (Hon. John Burr, M.L.C.), Crs. 11. C. J&mieson, K. I'iercy, C. Benjamin, W. J. Lawson, and T. E. Whittled.

The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wroto explaining the increase in tho levy.

It was decided to receive a deputation from, tho lledclifip Workers' Educational Association at tho next meeting of the Council.

Tho town clerk reported that tho -water works extension loan of £3750 would fall duo next Octobcr. There was no sinking fund in connexion with the loan, and ho rccouimended that tho Council take ndvantago of tha provisions of the Finance Act. of lust session and hold over payment of tho loan until twelve months after the wax. The recommendation watt adopted. '

Crs. T. E. Whitfield and C. Benjamin were authorised to r.i™n the contract (on behalf of the Council) with tho Public Works .Department in connexion with electricity foi Sumner.

The' Works Committee rccommcndcd that tho Drainage Board's utlention be called to tho bridee at the end of Smith's Toad.

A deputation from tho lledclifffl branch of the Workers' Educational Association, consisting of Messrs B. Riley, W. J). Hirkpatrick, A. Holden, and S. Betterley, neked for tho support of tho Council, which it was agreed to Rive. Cr. Mcßuc, as chairman of tho Sanitary Committee, moved:—"That we demand that a report on the efllucnt from the Walter Hill tannery lie furnished to tho Council by th« Drainage Board."
