BIG SHIPPING DEAL.

The "Journal of Commerce" loams that the International Mercantile Marine Company is negotiating for the sale of 100 of its British ships to British interests. Tho transaction, if completed, will involve 900,000 tons, andmore than 100,000,000 dollars. Tho ships include several well-known White Star vessels, also 44 freighters. The identity of the purchasers is loubtfui; but it is believed that Lord [nchcapo and Lord Pirrie arc associated with the transaction. The International Mercantile Marine Company lias its hoadquartcrs in New Vork. Lord Inchcape is chairman of the British Tndin and P. and O. Steam Navigation Company, and a diroctor of ;he Suez Canal Company. Lord Pirrio s chairman of Harland and Wolff's shipbuilding and engineering establishment.
