Replying to a question by Lord Lam* ington in tho House, of Lords on March 14th, the Earl of Derby the great gallantry of units of toe Indian Cavalry Corps which took part in the battle of Carabrai. There *8| one particular incident associated with their gallantry at Cambrai wluch he would like to mention. So greatly was their bravery on that occasion appreciated by the Guards they made a present of plate,to that particular regiment as a memento.; (Cheers.) That showed the great f apv preciation in which these Indian carairy were held by other forcos of hu Majesty's Army. It would be under* stood that in important operations like these Sir Douglas Haig could not poK sibly dwell on the achievements .01 every regiment, but he stated that; British as well as overseas and Indiaa regiments performed splendid feaw which could not be recorded in the despatch. But in this particular caw he (Lord Derby) wrote to -Sir Doogus Haig asking him to let him have an account of tho part played < by the Indian cavalry in tbe Cambrai affair. In reply he had received something which was almost in the nature of * despatch. It was yerv interestingi and he proposed to circulate it to the Press. On the occasion in question, as on all. others, tho Indian cavalry had acted up to their splendid reputation.
